New Release of CrypTool — CT 1.4.40 released

CrypTool 1General News

A new release of CrypTool 1 was published on September 21, 2017.

This version is available in 6 languages (German, English, Spanish, Polish, Serbian, and French), and it contains many bug fixes and corrections.

The open-source project CrypTool (CT) creates the most widespread, free e-learning programs for cryptography and cryptanalysis. The CT programs are used at many schools and universities, but also in companies and administrations to make understanding of encryption and IT security methods easier.

The new release of CrypTool 1 (CT1) was published on September 21, 2017 (since CT 1.4.30 from the year 2010, there have been many betas but no new release).

This mature version is available in 6 languages (German, English, Spanish, Polish, Serbian, and French). This release contains many small bug fixes, plus updates for the included documents (presentation, CT book, online help). It's the first time a French release is available.

CT1 is an offline program you can download for free from the website www.cryptool.org. The development of CT1 started in 1998, and among all CT offline programs, it still has the biggest dissemination ("offline" is used here in the opposite to the browser version CTO, which requires the user to be "online").

CT1 will still be maintained in the future. However, bigger new features will only go into its successor versions

  • CT2 (C# with VS and .NET),
  • JCT (Java with Eclipse RCP and SWT), and
  • QCT (C++ with Qt),

as well as in CTO which runs within a browser on a PC or smartphone.

We would be happy if many of you continue to use CrypTool for teaching, self-study, education, and awareness, give us feedback, and contribute with new algorithms and implementations.
